OpenAI has banned Cambodia for using ChatGPT to create fake identities and engage in online scam accounts

BlockBeats News, August 1st, OpenAI announced on July 31st that the company has banned a group of ChatGPT accounts associated with a Cambodia-based scam network. This network used ChatGPT to create fake identities, translate scam messages, and produce promotional content. They gained victims' trust through online dating and other means, and then lured them into participating in fraudulent cryptocurrency or gold investment schemes.

The relevant leads were initially provided by WhatsApp, and the individuals involved are suspected to be active in the Poipet area of Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia. OpenAI has shared this information with industry partners. The exact extent of the damage caused by this network is still unclear, but some victims have reportedly lost thousands of dollars.
