Video | Retrospect of the "AI Stock God" Fund's Blowup: Excessive 4x Leverage, a 25% Drawdown is Sufficient for Liquidation

On July 30th, renowned hedge fund founder Martin Shkreli reflected on the "AI Stock God" Leopold Aschenbrenner Fund's blow-up incident during an appearance on the podcast show "TBPN." He believed the core issue was excessive leverage, as Situational Awareness utilized about 4x leverage, where a mere 25% drawdown could trigger a margin call. As AI stocks plummeted, the fund was forced to sell off a large amount of assets, allowing institutions like Citadel to opportunistically take over at low prices, even gaining tens of billions of dollars in paper gains.

Leopold had previously worked at FTX until the day before its collapse, where he should have learned risk management lessons. However, less than two years later, he re-entered the market with even higher leverage and a more concentrated approach.
