Intel Rarely Opens Up Atom Processor Technology to Startups, CEO Pat Gelsinger Co-Invests in Beneficiary Company

BlockBeats News, July 30th, according to Reuters, Intel has opened up part of its Atom processor technology to the chip startup Rosaic Labs, marking a rare move for the company to license its x86 architecture-related core technology.

The report stated that Intel plans to provide Rosaic with the register transfer level (RTL) code of the Atom processor, enabling them to develop custom chip designs based on Intel's intellectual property. Sources said this move is relatively uncommon in Intel's history, as the company has rarely licensed the x86 architecture or Atom technology in the past.

Founded in May this year, Rosaic is led by CEO Amarjit Gill, whose core team includes several former Rivos employees. Gill has a long-standing investment relationship with Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, and they have previously co-invested in the chip startup Nuvia and collaborated on the creation of Rivos. According to public records, Rosaic is now positioned to initiate a $10 million seed funding round.
