Altman: Humanity Has Entered the Singularity, Yet the Age of Superintelligent AI Makes Us Even Busier

According to Dynamic Beating monitoring, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated in a recent interview that humanity has entered a technological singularity. A decade ago, this was still a distant concept jokingly discussed by him and his colleagues at a lunch table. Now, humanity is truly in the midst of it.

He also emphasized that technological progress is still following an exponential curve. There may not necessarily be a clear "singularity moment." However, the current period is crucial in determining the trajectory of this curve.

Altman believes that the most important current struggle is between "AI authoritarianism and freedom." The issues of safety, alignment, and employment are all very real. But this shouldn't let a single model or company become the "god of the machine." AI needs guardrails and should empower more people with its capabilities.

He further categorizes AI products into three waves. The first wave is chatbots, the second wave is programming agents. The third wave is enduring agents that will work continuously like a personal aide, colleague, or partner. He predicts that this wave will arrive soon.

A more powerful AI will not lead society into a "four-hour workweek" scenario. People will raise their expectations, create more things, and continue comparing themselves with others. Altman predicts that humans in the age of superintelligence will actually be busier. While people may complain verbally, deep down, they might actually enjoy it.
