Stripe's Hundred Billion Dollar Acquisition of OpenRouter: Valuation Was Only $1.3 Billion Just Two Months Ago

According to Dongcha Beating monitoring, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources familiar with the matter, that Stripe is in talks to acquire the AI model aggregation platform OpenRouter, with a potential price tag of nearly $10 billion. The deal could be announced soon, but negotiations could still collapse, with other buyers also possibly in the mix.

OpenRouter allows developers to call and switch between over 400 models through an API. The platform currently processes over 200 trillion Tokens per month, with a user base of over 10 million, as shown on its official website.

In May of this year, OpenRouter was valued at only $1.3 billion. If the deal goes through at $10 billion, the price would be nearly 7.7 times the valuation just two months ago. Several large tech companies have previously considered acquiring OpenRouter.

Stripe has been providing payment, billing, and tax services for OpenRouter. If the transaction is completed, Stripe will further venture from the payment stage into the distribution and invocation of AI models.
