Nvidia Signs $1.5 Billion Deal with Amkor Technology to Support the Latter's Chip Packaging Expansion

BlockBeats News, July 24th, according to Bloomberg, Nvidia (NVDA.US) has signed a $1.5 billion agreement with Amkor Technology (AMKR.US) to support the latter's expansion of chip packaging capacity, which is also part of a broader move to expand the semiconductor business in the United States.

According to a statement on Thursday, the agreement involves a prepayment from Nvidia that will help Amkor enhance its manufacturing capabilities in Arizona. The news has driven Amkor's stock price up by about 15% in after-hours trading.

Both companies stated that this partnership will focus on chip packaging and testing technology in the field of artificial intelligence. Packaging is a crucial final step in semiconductor manufacturing, during which the chip is placed into a package that allows it to connect with other components.
