OpenAI Raises Cloud Service Spending Forecast to $700 Billion, Invests $30 Billion to Build Data Centers

According to sources, OpenAI has raised its projected spending on compute power by 2030 from around $600 billion earlier this year to about $750 billion. This growth reflects OpenAI's new agreements with cloud computing service providers to rapidly access the massive compute power needed to develop and run AI models. OpenAI announced on Wednesday that it will invest $20 billion to launch a data center project named "Camellia" in Effingham County, Georgia.

OpenAI's VP of Compute Strategy, Sachin Katti, stated that the company has signed a contract with Georgia Power to obtain a 3.2-gigawatt power supply between 2028 and 2032, with project costs estimated to exceed $30 billion. This could make the facility one of the largest data centers OpenAI has built to date. Sources revealed that OpenAI has hired Brent Mayo to help ensure the data center project stays on track; Mayo is one of the key architects behind Musk's data center construction projects. (Jinse)
