According to DeepTech Beat monitoring, it has been learned from multiple industry sources that ByteDance is exploring autonomous driving. The project is still in the early planning stages, led by the World Model team under Seed's Zhou Chang.
The scenarios ByteDance is considering include unmanned logistics. The company has previously engaged with several leading autonomous driving teams and has extended invitations to some ADAS and autonomous driving professionals.
The World Model can learn the operational rules of the real environment, predict road condition changes, and has a significant overlap with the technical requirements of autonomous driving. However, there is still a gap between a general world model and a specialized autonomous driving model, and ByteDance needs to supplement road data and engineering capabilities.
In response, ByteDance stated that the company is conducting early-stage research and exploration in frontier areas such as physical AI, but it does not have any plans to engage in intelligent driving business.
