South Korean AI Gets Cold Water from Critini Analyst: Startup and University Research Seemingly Overestimated

According to Dynamic Beating monitoring, Critini Research analyst Jukan posted after attending ICML, stating that South Korea is only "pretending to seriously develop AI." The AI startup scene and university research in South Korea are vastly overestimated, with Jukan noting they are "almost nothing" compared to China.

He suggested that South Korea should introduce a talent policy similar to China's "Thousand Talents Plan" to attract overseas Korean researchers back to the country and actively recruit top foreign talent. Otherwise, South Korea risks becoming a country reliant on foreign AI technology.
