OpenAI restructures security team, original Security Lead departs

According to Dynamic Perspective Beating Monitor, OpenAI's former Head of Security, Johannes Heidecke, has announced his resignation to employees.

Meanwhile, OpenAI is restructuring the security team, further integrating it with the research team. Former VP of Research and Alignment, Mia Glaese, will be promoted to VP of Research and Security, overseeing the coordination efforts. All security teams at OpenAI will now report to her.

Prior lead of the security team, Saachi Jain, will be acting as the interim Head of Security, reporting to Glaese.

OpenAI's Chief Research Officer, Mark Chen, stated that due to the significantly accelerated model training frequency and shorter product release cycles, security coordination has become more challenging than ever. The new organizational structure aims to involve the security team earlier in model, product, and release decisions.
