BlockBeats News, July 9th, according to Reuters, Meta plans to start production of the AI chip codenamed "Iris" in September: this is part of its internal Meta Training and Inference Accelerators (MTIA) project, designed for in-house AI needs to enhance AI capabilities on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
The report stated that the chip is designed in collaboration with Broadcom and manufactured by TSMC, aiming to reduce reliance on external GPU suppliers such as Nvidia and AMD and decrease substantial computing costs. After the chip is launched, Meta plans to deploy a 7-gigawatt (GW) computing infrastructure in 2026, doubling to 14 GW in 2027. This is part of Meta's expansion of AI infrastructure plan, with capital expenditures expected to reach as high as $145 billion this year.
