US Media: US Attempts to Persuade Iran to Give Up Road Toll, Promising Revenue Boost After Sanctions Relief Would Be '100-Fold'

BlockBeats News, July 2nd, according to AXIOS, U.S. and Iran negotiation representatives are holding talks in Doha, focusing on the Strait of Hormuz issue. The Trump administration has conveyed to Iran that the benefits Iran would receive from the nuclear deal would far exceed what they could gain from collecting tolls in the strait.

The report states that U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Affairs Votelkov and Trump's senior advisor Kushner met with the Qatari Prime Minister and other Qatari officials serving as mediators between the U.S. and Iran in Doha on Tuesday. On Wednesday, they met with the Qatari Emir. Votelkov and Kushner have been trying to communicate to Iran that their toll collection demand could jeopardize a final U.S.-Iran deal more favorable to Iran.

“The message the U.S. is sending to Iran is to 'think long-term',” a U.S. official said. The official stated that if the U.S. were to lift all sanctions under the agreement, Iran's revenue from freely developing and selling oil and other resources "would be more than 100 times what they could achieve through toll collection."
