Codex's API Usage Surge Triggers Rate Limiting, OpenAI Initiates Full Team Hard Reset

According to the watchful eye of Beating Monitor, the OpenAI-owned coding AI Codex is still plagued by an abnormal quota consumption bug. The Head of Product for the core product, Tibo Sottiaux, announced that the team urgently opened a war room to scrutinize the logs on Sunday and implemented a second hard reset for all users.

The initial reset on June 27th failed to address the issue. Some users reported that after manually resetting their quota, the limit dropped by 75% again within just 36 hours. Independent developer nicdunz criticized OpenAI for being too lax in their incident response.

Sottiaux revealed that since the issue is still under investigation, the team decided to refresh all user quotas outright. Considering that some users had previously stacked up to three self-service quota resets, this time they opted for a direct reset instead of issuing quota reset cards.

Coincidentally, this week is OpenAI's rejuvenation welfare week, internally referred to as RESET week. What was supposed to be a week off for relaxation for the R&D team turned out to be a period where they spent their time in the war room resetting the quotas for the entire network.
