Claude Fable 5 Resurrected, OpenAI Teases New Model, U.S. Government May Have Tightened Grip on AI Model Releases

BlockBeats News, June 27th: This morning, two major AI giants successively announced significant updates to their models: OpenAI released a preview version of the GPT-5.6 series, including three different specifications: Sol, Terra, and Luna. Anthropic's Mythos 5 has been approved for redeployment to U.S. institutions, and the public version of Fable 5 is also set to be reissued.

Prior to this, the market had highly anticipated the release of "GPT-5.6 by June 23, 2026," but in reality, it was delayed by 3 days. It is worth noting that in the announcements of both companies, there was a coincidental mention of "U.S. government intervention." Claude Fable 5 was finally granted limited clearance after intense lobbying by Anthropic executives, and GPT-5.6 similarly is "restricted to Codex and trusted API partners only."

Market analysis points out that the U.S. government is no longer a passive observer of AI model releases; it has substantially controlled the pace of public release of cutting-edge AI through mechanisms such as CAISI pre-deployment review and export controls, prioritizing national security and risk prevention. This may signify a profound shift in AI governance from "industry self-regulation" to "state-led" regulation.

BlockBeats Note: Leading labs such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, xAI, etc., have all signed agreements with CAISI (U.S. Center for AI Standards and Innovation, formerly the AI Security Institute), allowing the government to conduct national security-related tests (cybersecurity, biosecurity, chemical weapon risk, model autonomy, etc.) before model publication. While these evaluations are nominally "voluntary," they have become a standard procedure before the release of large-scale models. Once a model's capabilities reach the threshold of "covering cutting-edge models" (determined by benchmarking from agencies like the NSA), it may trigger additional reviews or restrictions.
