According to Venture Beat monitoring, U.S. government officials have snubbed Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei in key negotiations regarding the re-release of the cutting-edge large model Claude Fable 5. Multiple White House officials found Amodei difficult to communicate with and have now assigned Anthropic co-founder and Chief Compute Officer Tom Brown, along with Public Policy Lead Sarah Heck, to take over the negotiation team.
The replacement of negotiation representatives aims to substantively break the deadlock in advancing the security clearance impasse. The U.S. Department of Commerce had issued a security alert on June 12, raising concerns about the model's "jailbreak" vulnerability and foreign access to data, leading Anthropic to subsequently revoke access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5. Despite Trump's public statement in an Axios interview that Anthropic is no longer a national security threat following a face-to-face meeting with Amodei at the G7 summit, substantial export controls have not been lifted. With Tom Brown's intervention and a focus on technical communication, White House officials have expressed satisfaction with the practical progress of the negotiations, brightening the prospects for the reopening of Fable 5.
