BlockBeats news, September 22: The European Central Bank (ECB) has launched the Pontes platform, allowing banks to settle tokenized asset transactions using wholesale central bank money. The platform is independent of the retail-facing digital euro pilot project.
The European Central Bank plans to invest, through the new Pontes platform, in securities issued and settled in tokenized form. This will mark the first time a major central bank directly participates in blockchain-based financial markets as both an investor and an infrastructure provider.
