According to Bloomberg, a joint statement from Oman and Iran showed Oman's support for the Tehran-Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and coordination to ensure the successful implementation of the memorandum. Both parties will draft an agreement on the fees and services in the Strait of Hormuz, and they will also hold talks with other coastal countries in the region.
Oman and Iran, as two coastal countries sharing the Strait of Hormuz, reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safe passage of the strait in accordance with relevant provisions of international law, while emphasizing their sovereignty and sovereign rights over the territorial waters of the Strait of Hormuz. The two parties also discussed the maritime issues related to the memorandum.
Both parties agreed to continue discussions on this matter through a joint working group of their respective foreign ministries, aiming to reach an agreement in line with international standards on the future navigation management, related services, and corresponding fees of the Strait of Hormuz. In this context, they also agreed to engage in discussions with other coastal states in the region and relevant parties.
