Snapchat is splitting its AI video team into a new company called Dotmo due to cost pressures.

BlockBeats News, June 19th, Snap announced that it will spin off its in-house Generative AI Video team to form an independent company. This new company, named Dotmo, will focus on developing AI models that can generate interactive gaming experiences. One of the reasons Snap decided to spin off such work internally was due to the high R&D costs within the company.

Although Dotmo will operate as an independent company from a technical standpoint, it will still maintain a close connection with Snapchat. For example, Snap will provide technical licensing to Dotmo, allowing it to apply relevant technology to gaming and interactive entertainment platforms. Additionally, Dotmo's initial team will be composed of some existing Snap employees who will be leaving Snap to establish this new company.
