Serenity: AMD Actively Securing CW Laser Supply, Potentially Signaling Onset of Upstream Supply Bottleneck

BlockBeats News, June 17th, Serenity's post stated that according to the TrendForce report, AMD is actively securing CW laser supply through multiple major procurement orders. It believes that this may only be the beginning of a supply bottleneck. The remaining independent capacity in the Western supply chain is scarce, with limited space available aside from SIVE, AAOI, and possibly Macom. Especially after Lumentum and Coherent signed long-term agreements with Nvidia, the relevant capacity has been further locked in. It disclosed that it currently holds SIVE and AAOI.

Serenity stated that Lumentum has been constrained by CW laser supply and may be sourcing from Japanese companies such as Sumitomo and Furukawa, which may also be close to full production. It cited the TrendForce report stating that AMD's move is "to ensure that its future capacity will not be restricted by Nvidia and other major cloud service providers (CSPs)."

After seeing Nvidia and AMD sign long-term agreements, other hyperscale cloud service providers such as Amazon and Microsoft may also attempt to lock in capacity. It said that this is largely to avoid being blocked by competitors in the supply chain, and AMD may be tipping the first domino after Nvidia. Serenity stated that this also demonstrates the significant value of the CW laser bottleneck and the related companies.
