SemiAnalysis: U.S. Government Sanctions Full of Holes, Suggests Anthropic's Fable/Mythos to Rename for Evasion

According to Donews Beating's monitoring, the semiconductor and AI independent research firm SemiAnalysis stated that Anthropic's recently released Fable 5 model was forced to be taken offline. The reason was that the Trump administration, citing national security concerns, requested restrictions on foreign access to Anthropic's Fable 5 and Mythos 5 advanced AI models. "Since Fable/Mythos has been banned, Anthropic can also learn from Wave Computing's playbook, simply rename the models to evade U.S. government sanctions."

Previously, GPU server manufacturer Wave Computing successfully bypassed the U.S. sanctions list by renaming itself to Aivres and continued selling servers in the U.S. market at prices about 30% lower than American competitors. On June 8, the U.S. Department of Defense updated the sanctions list, with Wave Computing Group prominently listed, but Aivres was not included—Aivres being a copycat of Wave Computing.
