According to Beating Insight monitoring, the AI independent research firm SemiAnalysis published an article pointing out that DeepSeek is transitioning from a light asset computing power leasing model to a heavy asset self-built infrastructure. Key evidence comes from its June 9 job posting for an "IDC Design Planning Engineer," which is specifically responsible for the design and delivery of MW to GW-scale data center infrastructure. Combined with the April recruitment of data center operations engineers in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, China, DeepSeek has publicly revealed its intention to self-build computing power for the first time.
The job position is located in Hangzhou and requires candidates to have a foundation in electrical and HVAC engineering. The core responsibilities include data center campus planning, power and cooling system design, assessment of new technologies such as liquid cooling and modularization, and collaborative delivery with design institutes and construction teams. Job deliverables include design specifications, technical standards, equipment selection, and capacity planning. This marks DeepSeek's shift from relying on external leasing to taking control of large-scale computing infrastructure, laying the foundation for long-term computing cost and reliability.
