BlockBeats News, June 8th - According to CNN, during an interview with NBC's Meet the Press, former U.S. President Trump stated that he had never promised not to start a new war, saying, "I have not made any commitments." However, CNN fact-checked this and pointed out that Trump had repeatedly and unequivocally promised during his 2024 campaign that the U.S. would not be involved in any new wars during his second term.
The report mentioned that Trump had stated at a rally in Pennsylvania in August 2024, "Under Trump, we will no longer have war, no longer have turmoil, we will have prosperity and peace." He also said in an interview with internet personality Adin Ross, "We will no longer have war." Additionally, during campaign events in North Carolina and Wisconsin, Trump had repeated the statement "there will be no more war."
In his victory speech in 2024, Trump also said, "They said I would start a war, I will not start a war, I will end a war." CNN noted that although Trump sometimes framed his statements as ending "endless wars" or preventing a "third world war," he had indeed repeatedly promised not to involve the U.S. in any new wars. Therefore, his statement in the NBC interview that he had "never made a commitment" is inconsistent with the public record.
