Trump Calls Iran Situation 'Progressing Smoothly' as U.S. Military Keeps Intercepting Missiles, Targeting Radar Sites

BlockBeats News, June 6th, the US Central Command stated that Iran launched 7 ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain on Friday local time, with the US military successfully intercepting 6 of them, while 1 missed its target. Furthermore, the US military also shot down 4 Iranian drones heading towards the Strait of Hormuz earlier that day, and subsequently carried out strikes on some of Iran's coastal surveillance radar facilities to prevent further attacks.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that its targets included the US-occupied Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the US Fifth Fleet based in Bahrain. The Kuwaiti military reported participation in intercepting the incoming missiles and drones, and Bahrain briefly sounded its air defense sirens.

Despite ongoing hostilities, Trump still remarked that the "Iran situation seems to be progressing quite nicely," stating that the US will "resolve the Iran issue very soon" either through diplomatic means or a tougher approach. Trump also revealed that Iran currently retains around 21%-22% of its missile inventory.

Previously, negotiators from the US and Iran had reached a preliminary agreement to extend the ceasefire by 60 days and initiate a new round of nuclear talks. However, Iran has not publicly accepted the agreement as Trump has demanded modifications, keeping the fragile ceasefire under strain.

Meanwhile, the US continues to escalate pressure on Iran by maintaining blockades on Iranian ports, inspecting a sanctioned Iranian oil tanker in the Indian Ocean, and imposing a new round of sanctions on individuals, companies, and tankers in the Iranian energy sector.

In addition, the Lebanese government and Israel had recently signed a ceasefire agreement under US mediation, but Hezbollah refused to accept the arrangement. Israeli forces continued airstrikes in several areas of southern Lebanon on Friday, demanding the evacuation of residents from 9 villages, resulting in at least 9 deaths. Analysts suggest that the escalation in Lebanon may further impact Iran's ceasefire negotiations and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
