BlockBeats News, June 6th - As the situation between Israel and Lebanon was already tense following a recent ceasefire agreement, it has once again escalated. According to the Lebanese military, on the 6th, the Israeli military launched an airstrike on a military vehicle in the Nabatieh area in southern Lebanon, resulting in the death of a brigadier general, a captain, and another soldier. Lebanese President Michel Aoun condemned this attack as a serious violation of Lebanese sovereignty and international law.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed carrying out the strike, stating that there was "suspicious activity" in the area where the vehicle was located, with intelligence indicating potential Hezbollah involvement. An investigation into the incident is currently underway, with an emphasis that the target of the strike was not the Lebanese army.
Additionally, on the same day, the Israeli military also launched an airstrike on the village of Saksakieh in southern Lebanon, resulting in at least 6 civilian deaths and 4 injuries. The Lebanese military accused Israel of ongoing military operations that are undermining the ceasefire and withdrawal process.
Analysts point out that just as the two sides had recently signed a ceasefire agreement and the United States was promoting a new round of peace initiatives, this attack, which led to the death of a senior Lebanese military officer, may pose a new test to the already fragile ceasefire situation.
