The U.S. government has prohibited Americans from engaging in a "safe passage" agreement with Iran, and the Strait of Hormuz remains impassable in the short term.

BlockBeats News, May 30th, the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued an updated statement explicitly prohibiting Americans from entering into any "safe passage" agreements with the Iranian government or the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, even if no payment is involved. Iran recently established the "Persian Gulf Strait Management Authority" with the goal of collecting "transit fees" from vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz and providing security. The U.S. has designated it as a sanction target, warning that any dealings with it will face sanction risks.

The U.S. Treasury Department statement emphasized that seeking "safe passage guarantees" services from Iran, whether or not payment is made, is prohibited. The U.S. continues to maintain a tough sanction stance against Iran, rejecting any form of "pay-for-protection" or similar transactions.

According to PolyBeats monitoring, on the prediction market Polymarket, the probability of "Strait of Hormuz transit time" before June 15th is 8%, and before the end of June is 34%.
