BlockBeats News, May 28th. Treasury Department officials appointed by the Trump administration are actively pushing for the printing of $250 bills featuring Trump's portrait. This would be the first time in over 150 years that a living person's portrait appears on U.S. circulating currency. In August of last year, Treasury Department officials provided the Bureau of Engraving and Printing with design mockups that included Trump's portrait and signature. The director of the bureau, who is in charge of banknote affairs, was reassigned last month after resisting the plan. In her resignation message, she wrote, "The buck stopped here."
If this move is realized, it will break the long-standing American tradition of not printing living people on circulating currency. Currently, officials appointed by Trump continue to pressure the printing department to advance this highly symbolic currency design.
