Meta Launches AI Restructuring Plan: 10% Workforce Reduction and Shift of 7,000 Employees to AI Projects

BlockBeats News, May 19th - According to Reuters, Meta disclosed in an internal memo a restructuring plan that will be launched on May 20th. The company will globally reduce its workforce by 10% and simultaneously advance a new round of organizational restructuring to optimize the AI workflow. Janelle Gale, Chief People Officer at Meta, stated that the company plans to transition 7,000 employees to new projects related to AI workflow and eliminate some management positions. After the adjustment, more teams will operate in a flatter structure, in smaller-scale 'pods/cohorts' to enhance efficiency and autonomy.

This restructuring is part of Meta's AI transformation plan this year, focusing on projects such as Applied AI Engineering (AAI), Agent Transformation Accelerator (ATA), and Central Analytics, with the goal of developing AI Agents capable of autonomous task execution. Meta had previously closed 6,000 open positions. Reports indicate that this round of layoffs and position adjustments will collectively affect approximately 20% of the workforce. As of the end of March this year, Meta had a total of 77,986 employees. Meanwhile, internal dissatisfaction with the restructuring plan at the company is growing, with over 1,000 employees having signed a petition opposing the mouse-tracking software used to train AI models.
