According to Dynamix Beating monitoring, on the last day of the evidentiary phase of Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI, a Microsoft executive revealed a staggering number: by June 2026, Microsoft's total investment in OpenAI (including investment commitments, infrastructure, and computing power hosting costs) will exceed $1 trillion.
This number is significantly higher than the previously known $130 billion cash investment, revealing for the first time the true cost Microsoft has paid for binding with OpenAI in underlying computing power and infrastructure. Also testifying on the same day, Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott confirmed that when the two parties built the first supercomputer many years ago, they used tens of thousands of GPUs in a one-time event.
In addition to the exposure of the hefty bill, the conclusion of the trial was also highly dramatic. After Microsoft and OpenAI announced the end of the evidence presentation, Musk's team, which originally had the opportunity to rebut, unexpectedly chose to waive the rebuttal phase (No rebuttal case). This means that the three-week evidentiary phase has officially ended, and the court will proceed directly to closing arguments on Thursday.
