Iran Seeks to Control Hormuz Strait Submarine Internet Cable

BlockBeats News, May 10th. According to Fars News Agency, Iran is pushing for licensing, fees, and legal jurisdiction over foreign submarine cable operators. These cables carry a large amount of data traffic between Europe, the Gulf region, and Asia.

The Iranian government also requires all management and maintenance work to be exclusively carried out by local companies. Previously, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran had warned that it could launch attacks on relevant submarine cable infrastructure.
