BlockBeats News, May 8th, Arkham released a latest report listing the top 10 wealthiest on-chain cryptocurrency individual holders in 2026, based on publicly available on-chain data to estimate net worth, with the top-ranked individuals mainly deriving their wealth from early holdings of Bitcoin or Ethereum, with Satoshi Nakamoto still overwhelmingly topping the list.
The top-ranked Satoshi Nakamoto with around $89 billion, the anonymous creator of Bitcoin, remains the undisputed wealthiest on-chain holder. His wealth all comes from the Bitcoin mined in 2009-2010, spread across approximately 22,000 addresses. This fortune has placed him in the top 25 of the global rich list.
Tron founder Justin Sun with around $1.5 billion, holding a large amount of TRX (18 billion tokens, approximately $610 million), stETH, BTC, and other assets in his addresses.
The "tragic figure" James Howells, who lost his keys, with around $650 million, a Welsh IT worker who mined about 8,000 BTC with his laptop in 2010 but accidentally threw away the hard drive containing the private keys in 2013, now buried in a landfill and cannot be recovered.
Estonian banker Rain Lohmus with around $589 million, who participated in an ETH ICO in 2014 with $75,000, receiving 250,000 ETH. These assets are visible but inaccessible due to lost private keys.
Early Bitcoin developer Stefan Thomas with around $569 million, who received 7,002 BTC for making a Bitcoin explainer video. The private keys are stored on an IronKey hardware wallet, but the password paper is lost, with only two attempts left; otherwise, the data will be permanently erased.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin with around $533 million, whose wealth mainly comes from the ETH allocated during the genesis. He also frequently receives a significant amount of airdropped tokens from meme coin projects.
Irish drug dealer Clifton Collins with around $447 million, who acquired around 6,000 BTC in 2011-2012 at a price of around $5/BTC. The private keys were lost inside a fishing rod, and he was later arrested. In March 2026, one of the wallets suddenly activated, and the police recovered around $35 million in BTC.
Cobo co-founder and CEO DiscusFish with around $213 million, whose addresses mainly hold BTC.
The founder of POAP (Proof of Attendance Protocol), Patricio Worthalter, holds approximately $149 million, predominantly in ETH and related assets.
