BlockBeats News, May 8th, during an interview with The New York Times podcast "Sway," Ray Dalio, the founder of Bridgewater Associates, issued a pessimistic warning about the future economic and social situation in the United States. He stated that the U.S. is facing multiple structural problems, including an expanding fiscal deficit, worsening wealth gap, and deepening political polarization, which could lead to a "disorderly era" in the coming years, accompanied by a financial crisis, stagflation, and escalating social conflicts.
Dalio pointed out that the U.S. government has long relied on borrowing and money printing to plug the fiscal gap, which could result in currency devaluation and rising inflation, ultimately forming a "high inflation + low growth" stagflation environment. He referred to this scenario as one of the worst situations for the financial markets. Data shows that the U.S. fiscal expenditure in the previous fiscal year reached $7 trillion, while revenue was only $5.2 trillion. Dalio stated, "In the next five years, with all these forces coming together, America will be almost unrecognizable." He believed that after the midterm elections, political and social conflicts in the U.S. may further intensify, expressing concern about the risk of potential violent events.
Regarding the international situation, Dalio believed that the rules-based international order has gradually eroded, with issues such as the U.S.-Iran situation and control over the Strait of Hormuz having a critical impact. He also warned that the world may be entering a long-term trend of "de-dollarization," with the confidence in the U.S. as an economic and political superpower potentially weakening.
In terms of investment strategy, Dalio recommended allocating 5% to 15% of assets to gold to hedge against currency devaluation and macroeconomic turbulence risks. He stated that historical experience shows that gold usually outperforms fiat currency in similar periods. Meanwhile, Marc Rowan also warned that the world is currently undergoing a "large-scale geopolitical reorganization."
