Trump Holds White House Situation Room Meeting to Discuss Hormuz Crisis and US-Iran Negotiations

BlockBeats News, April 19, According to a report from the AXIOS website, two U.S. officials revealed that President Trump held a meeting in the White House Situation Room on Saturday morning to discuss the crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and negotiations with Iran.


The situation with Iran is at a critical juncture, with the ceasefire expected to expire in three days, and the final date for the next round of U.S.-Iran talks is yet to be determined. A senior U.S. official stated that if there is no breakthrough in the short term, war could resume within days.


According to a U.S. official, those present at the Situation Room meeting included: Vice President Pence, Secretary of State Pompeo, Secretary of Defense Esper, Treasury Secretary Mnuchin, White House Chief of Staff Meadows, White House Special Envoy Hook, CIA Director Ratcliffe, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Milley.


According to a source familiar with the details of the negotiations, after progress was made in narrowing the differences regarding Iran's uranium enrichment and its enriched uranium stockpile, the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz reemerged.
