BlockBeats News, April 17th. On April 16th local time, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on a Democratic-led resolution with a result of 214 yeas and 213 nays, narrowly rejecting the resolution. The resolution called for President Trump to end military actions against Iran and required congressional authorization before further military engagement with Iran. The resolution was previously defeated in the Senate the day before.
The Democrats have stated that they will continue to introduce similar resolutions until either the hostilities with Iran cease or congressional authorization is obtained for further military action. According to the U.S. Constitution, only Congress has the power to declare war. A law passed by the U.S. Congress in 1973 stipulates that the President can only take limited military action without congressional authorization in the event of an attack on the U.S. or an imminent threat to the nation's security.
