According to 1M AI News's monitoring, Google has launched a free dictation app called Google AI Edge Eloquent on iOS, focusing on offline use. Users can download the Gemma-based speech recognition model for offline use. The app provides real-time transcription that automatically filters out filler words like "um" and "uh" when paused, refining them into coherent written expressions. It also offers four text rewriting options at the bottom: "Key Points," "Formal," "Brief," and "Detailed."
By default, the app operates in cloud mode, utilizing the Gemini model for text refinement. When disabled, all processing occurs locally. Users can import professional terms, names, and other keywords from their Gmail account or manually add custom dictionaries. The app also keeps a record of dictation history, supports search functionality, and displays word count and speaking rate for each session.
Currently, Eloquent is only available on iOS, but the App Store description mentions an Android version that will support setting it as the system default keyboard and provide a floating button for quick access, similar to the Android version of the AI dictation app Wispr Flow. Google has not responded to TechCrunch's request for comment.
