Iranian Official Proposes Strait of Hormuz Opening Condition: Use Past Ship Fees to Compensate for Iran's War Losses

BlockBeats News, April 5th, according to a report by CCTV News, Mahdi Tabatabaei, Deputy Director of Information and Communication Affairs at the Iranian Presidential Office, made a strong statement on the regional situation and the issue of passage in the Strait of Hormuz. Tabatabaei took to social media to launch a scathing attack on U.S. President Trump and his policies, accusing him of resorting to insults out of "desperation and anger" and stating that his reckless behavior has triggered a full-scale war in the region. Regarding the control of the Strait of Hormuz, Tabatabaei proposed that only by establishing a new legal system and compensating Iran for all the losses suffered in past wars using past ship tax revenues, will the Strait of Hormuz be fully reopened.

In addition, according to CNN, details of the "potential plans" discussed between Oman and Iran regarding the reopening of passage rights in the Strait of Hormuz are emerging. A source from Oman stated that the negotiations have been going on for about two weeks, focusing on developing a "safe passage agreement" to restore commercial shipping passage. The plan would require oil and gas transport ships passing through Hormuz to register with Iran and agree to fly a non-hostile flag. This effectively means recognizing Iran's jurisdiction over this strategic waterway. These proposals are seen as one of Oman's last efforts to prevent further escalation of the war to preserve its abundant energy resources. Oman had previously acted as a mediator between Washington and Tehran. However, the source pointed out that pushing this agreement under wartime conditions is "extremely difficult" and added that the best solution is still an immediate ceasefire.

According to PolyBeats monitoring, on the prediction market Polymarket, the probability of "the Strait of Hormuz reopening for navigation this month" is now as low as 12%.
