BlockBeats News, April 5th, according to NBC reports, the prediction market platform Polymarket has issued an apology statement regarding allowing users to speculate on the fate of a U.S. pilot on a U.S. fighter jet shot down over Iran. Earlier, a U.S. official said a two-seater F-15E "Strike Eagle" fighter jet was shot down on Friday. One crew member has been rescued, but the other remains missing.
In a subsequently deleted market, users could predict when the pilot would be rescued, with most guessing it would be on Saturday. The market's title read: "US Confirms Pilot Will Be Rescued on...?"
U.S. Representative Seth Moulton, a former U.S. Marine veteran who served in Iraq, harshly criticized the market on the social platform X, pointing out that it was outrageous for people to be speculating on this while Iran is engaged in a perilous search and rescue operation.
In response to Seth Moulton's post on the X platform, Polymarket apologized and stated that the market has been taken down. The company wrote: "We have immediately removed the market as it does not align with our integrity standards. This content should not have been posted, and we are investigating how it bypassed our internal review mechanisms."
