The Trump administration is appealing a federal judge's ruling blocking the Anthropic ban

BlockBeats News, April 2nd, the Trump administration will appeal a federal judge's ruling blocking its ban on the government's use of Anthropic technology. The U.S. Department of Justice on Thursday filed a notice with the court stating that it will appeal the ruling of U.S. District Court Judge Rita F. Lin in the Northern District of California, San Francisco, from last month. The judge had previously halted the government's plan to sever ties with Anthropic to maintain the status quo during the ongoing legal dispute, but she stayed the ruling for a week to give the government an opportunity to appeal.

Previously, Anthropic filed a lawsuit challenging the Department of Defense's assertion that its technology poses a threat to the U.S. supply chain. In the ruling on March 26th, the judge sided with Anthropic's position, finding the government's justification for implementing the ban on national security grounds to be questionable. The judge saw this move more as a "punishment" to Anthropic as the company had requested assurances that its technology would not be used to surveil Americans or for autonomous weapon deployment.
