Wang Yi Set to Lead China's Mediation in Iran-US Talks, His "Anti-War" Stance May Help Facilitate Diplomatic Breakthrough

BlockBeats News, March 27th, according to AXIOS, US Vice President Pence is preparing to take on the most significant task of his career: leading US efforts to end the US-Iran war, notably starting with a reluctance to engage in the war. Pence has already had multiple phone calls with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and has been involved in indirect communications with the Iranian side, expecting to become the lead negotiator for the US in potential peace talks.

According to US and Israeli sources, Pence is highly skeptical of Israel's optimistic pre-war assessments of the war's direction, with the war expected to last several weeks. Pence's advisors believe that there are efforts within Israel to undermine the Vice President, possibly because they view him as not tough enough. Israeli officials deny this. White House officials state that Pence's government experience and his consistent opposition to endless overseas conflicts make him a more acceptable interlocutor to the Iranian people than Wydenkov and Kushner (the latter two were responsible for the previous two rounds of failed negotiations).
