Anthropic Rolls Out 10 Updates in Seven Days, What Did OpenAI Release? Fidji Simo's "Codex-Centric" Declaration Ignites Comparison

According to 1M AI News monitoring, OpenAI's Business Applications CEO Fidji Simo posted on X in response to external questions about the company's execution pace: "As new investments start to pay off, such as what we are seeing with Codex right now, doubling down and avoiding distraction is crucial. We are excited about seizing this opportunity."

This tweet immediately sparked independent tech analyst Aakash Gupta to post a seven-day delivery comparison. He listed 10 updates from Anthropic during the same period, including Dispatch, Channels, Voice Mode, /loop command, 1 million context window GA, MCP feature, mobile persistent Cowork, Excel and PowerPoint cross-app contexts, in-line charts, 64k default output token. Meanwhile, OpenAI's actions were: launching GPT-5.4 mini and nano, redesigning the model selector, discontinuing the "Nerdy" personality preset, and announcing three acquisitions. Gupta stated, "To find OpenAI-level product delivery, you have to scroll all the way back to December."

Gupta's key argument is cultural differences. He mentioned that Anthropic's announcements come from code-writing engineers, with Claude Code lead Boris Cherny submitting 10 to 30 PRs daily, Cowork being built by Claude Code in 10 days, and the whole team operating in a product company rather than a corporate mode. He believed that OpenAI, on the other hand, overlays a "Meta-style product organization" on top of an AI lab. Since Simo joined, OpenAI has acquired 12 companies, with decisions flowing upwards and deliveries downwards, where announcements replace actual releases, while executives responsible for deliveries discuss product visions that have not yet materialized.

On the same day, Roblox Product Manager Peter Yang commented, summarizing OpenAI's strategy into three steps: getting the install base lead, doing the coding and knowledge work right, and building the personal assistant product OpenClaw that knows everything about the user. He wrote, "They just need to get the second and third steps done fast enough before users switch to Claude or Gemini."
