Co-founder of xAI Continues to Depart, With Only 2 of the Original 11 Co-founders Remaining Besides Musk

According to 1M AI News, xAI co-founder Zihang Dai resigned this week, and another co-founder Guodong Zhang confirmed today on X that this is his last day at xAI. Zhang reported directly to Musk, overseeing the Grok Code (programming agent) and Grok Imagine (AI image and video generation) key projects.

Since January this year, xAI has seen four co-founders depart: Toby Pohlen, Jimmy Ba, Tony Wu, and Greg Yang. After Dai and Zhang's departure, among the 11 co-founders who founded xAI with Musk in 2023, only Manuel Kroiss and Ross Nordeen will remain. Musk announced last month a reorganization of xAI, including layoffs affecting some employees and involving the Macrohard project targeting enterprise office scenarios and the Grok Imagine team.
