Casa Co-founder: Quantum Computing Unlikely to Break Bitcoin in the Short Term, but Network Upgrades May Take 5 to 10 Years

2025-12-21 13:46

BlockBeats News, December 21st, Jameson Lopp, co-founder of Bitcoin custody company Casa, stated in a social media post, "I have been publicly discussing the risk of quantum computing to Bitcoin for 18 months. My main conclusion is: I sincerely hope the development of quantum computing can stagnate or even regress because adapting Bitcoin to the post-quantum era will be very tricky, for many reasons."

"Quantum computers will not break the Bitcoin network in the short term. We will continue to monitor their development. However, a thorough overhaul of the Bitcoin network (and unprecedented fund migration) may take 5 to 10 years. We should hold the best hope, but also prepare for the worst-case scenario."
