The US Department of Justice Dissolves Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team, Will No Longer Target Exchanges, Coin Mixing Services, and Offline Wallets for Enforcement

2025-04-08 18:23

BlockBeats News, April 8th. According to Fortune, on Monday evening, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the disbandment of the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET), a specialized group responsible for cryptocurrency-related investigations, to comply with President Trump's January executive order on digital assets. According to a memo, the U.S. Department of Justice will now focus on combating individuals who harm digital asset investors' interests, rather than taking enforcement actions against cryptocurrency exchanges, mixing services, and offline wallets.

The NCET was established in 2021 and consisted of prosecutors from the Department of Justice's Anti-Money Laundering and Cybercrime Division, as well as lawyers from other regional offices. The group has been involved in several major cryptocurrency investigations, including the Tornado Cash cryptocurrency mixing protocol case and the hacker Avraham Eisenberg case.
