Ripple is expected to fully release over 41 billion XRP from its custodial wallets by 2027.
On December 29th, BlockBeats reported that Ripple had recently released its Q3 market report, revealing its XRP holdings and market operations. As of the end of Q3, Ripple had over 5.25 billion XRP in its disposable balance. Over 41 billion XRP were stored in custodial wallets, with Ripple receiving 1 billion XRP from these wallets each month for sales or operational expenses. The report showed that Ripple sold nearly 892 million XRP from July to September. However, Ripple typically returns most of the XRP received back to the custodial wallets. For example, approximately 800 million XRP have been returned to the wallets each month since August.
Based on the pattern of releasing and returning XRP tokens from custodial wallets, the time it takes for all XRP tokens to be released from these wallets may be longer than expected. Ripple previously stated that the locked tokens in the custodial wallets would be released monthly over the next 42 months. Ripple estimates that approximately 40 billion XRP held in custodial wallets will be fully released by early 2027. However, considering Ripple's practice of returning most of the released funds to the custodial wallets each month, the final release date may exceed this timeline. (Cryptopolitan)
