Fantom has launched a technical upgrade, "Fantom Sonic," and opened access to the testnet.
BlockBeats reported on October 25th that the Fantom Foundation announced the launch of its latest technology upgrade, Fantom Sonic, aimed at improving the scale and performance of the network. The new upgrade includes a brand new virtual machine, enhanced database storage, and optimized consensus mechanism, which is expected to achieve more than 2,000 transactions per second, with an average termination time of one second and storage requirements only a part of its predecessor, Opera. Fantom Sonic will replace the previous Opera technology stack and does not require a hard fork to upgrade.
In order to allow users and developers to experience the speed brought by this upgrade before its official release, Fantom has opened access to the Sonic testnet environment. The official network is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2024.
