Founder of Ordinals proposes Runes as an alternative solution to BRC20.

According to a BlockBeats report on September 26th citing Cointelegraph, Casey Rodarmor, the founder of Ordinals, proposed a new protocol called Runes based on the Bitcoin network, which could potentially replace BRC20. Casey Rodarmor stated that alternative token protocols like Runes will not leave a large amount of "garbage UTXO" on the Bitcoin network, unlike BRC20 tokens.
