Bitcoin options worth 3 billion US dollars are set to expire at the end of the month, which may cause market volatility.
BlockBeats News reported on September 23rd that data shows about $3 billion worth of Bitcoin options and $1.8 billion worth of Ethereum options will expire on September 29th.
Luuk Strijers, Chief Commercial Officer of Deribit, emphasized the similarities between the cryptocurrency market and traditional finance markets on approaching option expiration dates, especially quarterly expiration dates. Strijers pointed out that "this may result in significant trading volume and volatility. The actions of market makers may exacerbate market volatility, especially before the options expire. Market makers will adjust their hedging to adapt to changes in the underlying asset prices."
