The International Organization of Securities Commissions has called for countries to regulate DeFi protocol operators.
BlockBeats reported on September 7th that the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) issued a report on Thursday calling on governments around the world to take action on DeFi protocols and to have access to information on related developers and responsible parties for regulatory purposes, just as they do for general financial market participants.
Tuang Lee Lim, Chairman of IOSCO's Board-level FinTech Working Group, stated in a statement that "there is a widespread misconception that DeFi is truly decentralized and managed by autonomous code or smart contracts. However, regardless of how DeFi arrangements are operated, 'responsible parties' can be identified."
IOSCO's members include institutions such as the US Securities and Exchange Commission and the UK Financial Conduct Authority, who are concerned that DeFi protocols may be easily manipulated, harming investors and the market. (CoinDesk)
