EU Financial Services Chief: Digital Euro should be a priority for the next European Commission.
BlockBeats News, on September 7th, Mairead McGuinness, the commissioner in charge of financial services, financial stability and the Capital Markets Union of the European Union (EU), mentioned the digital euro in her speech at the Brussels-based think tank Bruegel and stated that the European Central Bank (ECB) will decide the fate of the project in October. Mairead McGuinness believes that there is no reason to rush the launch of the digital euro before the next European elections in June 2024. In her view, the next European Commission should handle the CBDC project "quietly and slowly."
It is reported that the 2024 European Parliament elections will be held from June 6th to 9th, 2024. Under EU procedures, the newly elected parliament will approve or reject the president and other members of the European Commission, whose candidates will be proposed by the European Council.
