Instagram plans to launch a decentralized social platform in June that can interoperate with Mastodon.

BlockBeats reported that Instagram plans to launch a text-based decentralized social platform in June. The platform will exist as a separate app, but will be partially integrated into Instagram. Additionally, the platform can interoperate with Mastodon, a decentralized social platform built on the ActivityPub protocol. According to reports, the app will use the same community guidelines as Instagram, and text posts can contain up to 500 characters. Users can also upload photos, links, and videos up to five minutes long. As planned, some prominent public figures will have early access to the app.
