ConsenSys: MetaMask does not tax cryptocurrency transactions, and the terms of service have not recently been changed.
BlockBeats reported on May 22 that ConsenSys, the developer of MetaMask, responded to questions regarding "withholding tax service terms" on social media platforms. "We have noticed that inaccurate information about ConsenSys service terms is circulating. It needs to be clarified that MetaMask does not impose taxes on cryptocurrency transactions, and we have not made any changes to our terms and conditions for this purpose. At ConsenSys, our goal is to make Web3 universally easy to use, access and build through our product suite."
ConsenSys continued: "It is worth noting that the terms mentioned in the tweet are not new. They apply to products for which we need to pay sales tax. The tax section of our terms and conditions falls under the 'Fees and Payment' section, which only relates to products and payment plans provided by ConsenSys. For example, Infura's credit card developer subscription includes sales tax."
Previously, Anton Bukov, co-founder of 1inch, said that ConsenSys updated its terms of service in April, which involved tax issues, stating that "each party shall be responsible for determining and paying all taxes and other government fees and charges (including any fines, interest and other additional fees) payable by such party in connection with or arising from the transaction in accordance with applicable law, as well as payments under this Agreement. Unless otherwise stated, all fees payable by you do not include taxes. We reserve the right to withhold taxes when necessary."
